Study on pollen viability and meiosis of pollen mother cells in sweet sorghum induced by carbon ion beam irradiation

To investigate the change of mutanted cytogenetics, KFJT-1 irradiated by carbon ions and KFJT-CK were used and the difference of pollen viability and pollen mother cells meiosis were comparatively studied. The ex-perimental results showed that the total number of pollens and pollen viability of KFJT-1 were more than that of KFJT-CK. When the meiosis of pollen mother cells were mostly turned into the second meiotic division for KFJT-1, the meiosis of KFJT-CK was being at the stage of the first meiotic division. Triad, unequal separation of chromosome and asychronization of chromosomes segregation were found in KFJT-1 meiosis Ⅱ, and the aberration rate of KFJT-1 was only 4.5%, which indicated that the most of chromosomal aberrations induced by carbon ions were repaired and the genetic characteristics were stabilized during the growth of reproduction and might be stable genetic. These results show that KFJT-1 maturity is earlier than KFJT-CK, and all of indexes are better than the KFJT-CK.
